The Writer

Hi. I’m Mar. And here’s some bits and pieces about me:-

Status?
EHEM…warganegara Malaysia. Sarawakian. Iban. Christian. Unmarried. Ebelebel. ;p

Food?
Let’s see…apart from things that are too spicy, weird, bitter or gross, I think I can eat them. LOL. One thing I wanna point out that people don’t believe is that I don’t eat durians. Yes,I don’t. Don’t ask why. I just don’t.

Where  are you from exactly?

Mars.

LOL. Kidding…

I was born in Julau, Sarikei. I grew up in Brunei where I studied in an all-girls’ school (St. Angela’s Convent School) from kindergarten to Form 3. Form 4, I migrated to Sarawak and studied in SMK Meradong in Sarikei until Form 5. After that, migrated to Kuching and further my studies (diploma) at UiTM Sarawak Campus in Samarahan. Was there for 3 years then continued to pursue my degree at UiTM’s main campus in Shah Alam. Was there for 2 and a half years. In 2007, I was working in Kuching. But now, I’m back in Brunei again. Does that answer the question? ;p

Who you look up to?
When asked this question back in my primary school days, about who is my idol and who I looked up to, I always said “My brother” without any doubt. Now, several years down the line, my answer remains the same. =)

Describe yourself in 3 words.
I. Am. Me. ;p

What kind of music genre you like?
There isn’t any specific genre that I would say I’m a fan of. It’s more like mix and match…I can listen to a variety of music. That said, let me just recap the evolution of music from a personal perspective.
The first music to make an impression on me was pop. Yes, I was (and still am I guess) into Boy Bands (BSB, Boyzone, Blue, BoyzIIMen, Five, 3 Doors Down, Westlife, MLTR, BBMak, Hanson, Moffats, Human Nature, Code Red, C21,etc.), Girl Bands (B*Witched, Spice Girls, etc.)and pop groups (Corrs, S Club 7, All Stars, etc). There’s also those pop duos like M2M, Brandy & Monica, KC & Jojo, Evan & Jaron, Savage Garden and solo pop acts like Uncle Kracker, Kavanna, R. Kelly, Brian McKnight, Gareth Gates, etc.
When I became a Uni-student, my taste in music evolved into rock. Not hard rock or heavy metal but modern rock… The first rock band I knew was Linkin Park and the first rock song that got me excited was “My Sacrifice” by Creed when I heard it being played live by a band in campus during one of the Battle of The Bands. From then on, I listened to other rock bands like Hoobastank, Alterbridge, Lifehouse, Nickelback, Seether, Switchfoot, Shades Apart, Hinder, Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach, Fort Minor, etc. I also listen to local rock bands like OAG and Indonesian rock bands like Dewa, Once, Ungu, Radja, Samsons, Ratu, etc.
From modern rock, I started listening to punk rock. The first punk rock band I like (and still is) was Simple Plan. Then others followed suit (Green Day, Bowling for Soup, Fall Out boys, Sum41, Muse, MCR, Weezer, etc.). I also began listening to the gothic sounds of Evanescence, Nightwish, etc. And then there’s also those music that I don’t know fall into what genre – Akon, Eminem, Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jewel, Jem, Daddy Yankee, Michelle Branch, Britney Spears, Hillary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Gym Class Heroes, Justin Timberlake, Lee Ryan, Gwen Stephanie, Josh Groban, Kenny G, Celine Dion, etc etc etc.
So you see, as I said before…I mix and match. But if have to pick genre, I’d say punk rock. ;p

What do you like about yourself?
I like that I can speak/write/listen/read damn good English (thanks to my parents for sticking me in a good school in Brunei where English is the medium used). I like that I can see the good in people more than I see their not-so-good qualities. I like that I’m a person that my close friends trust and come to when they need a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. I like that I am able to be angry at someone and be able to forgive them before the day is over. I like it when my plans for my future fall into place. I like it that I have a great family to fall back on when things don’t go as planned.

What you don’t like about yourself?
I don’t like that people take me for granted just because I am able to forgive-and-forget. As much as I want to be strong and be in control of the situation, sometimes I fail and break down and cry…but people never see my tears because I always seem to be in control when inside I could be struggling. I don’t like that I’m always everyone’s good friend but never good-enough to be more…that people always seem to see me as just a good friend, when I can be so much more, no matter what hints I give them. I don’t like that I have to give up lots of small things (accumulated become big) and never seem to be the good-enough daughter / sister.

Why you blog?
I guess I can say that my two passions in life is Music and the other, writing.
I started writing since I was a kid. Back in school, my fave part of the English/BM paper was the composition/karangan part. I would always pick the one where we have to continue or end a story with a given line. I always seemed to get “good story” commented on it by my teachers. :D
I used to keep a diray but now blogging is my diary, except its online and I can share what happens in my life with my readers. ;p
Actually, I never knew blogging was something I’d be doing. My first blog was in friendster and I “opened up” a blog just because friendster provided it…but along the way,I had friends coming over to read what I wrote and somehow, that just made blogging a lot more important to me – to enable me to communicate with my readers and for them to get to know me. The coolest part of blogging is being able to make friends with other bloggers and that’s just priceless. :)
Also, being able to have this “interview” on my blog is also cool…never did anything like this before! ;p

What is your iban name if you have one?
I don’t have an Iban name per say, as in written on my birth cert or IC, but I have an Iban petname that my parents call me – Mit. (It means small literally, but affectionately I guess it can mean “young one” or “small one” or “young lady”) :)

Do you like to be seduced or to seduce?
Haha…this question is classic!
Let’s just say that I don’t believe in “perigi mencari timba” (literally translated: The Bucket looking for the Well) or all that crap about girl-power (in this sense).
Hey, I’m a hopeless, classic romantic at heart. ;)

Favourite spa?
Hmm…never been to one so can’t say. I like the idea of having a full-body massage though. That would be yummy especially if the masseuse young and gorgeous. Haha! ;)

Favourite clothing line?
Let me just clarify it here ok? I’m not one of those vain plastic dolls kinda girls who keep long fingernails, giggle giggle all the time and go shopping for Gucci and Prada and whatever. When I go shopping it’s mostly WINDOW shopping or buying stuff that I actually need. As for fave clothing line, I don’t have any. I wear what I feel like wearing. No brand also nevermind, as long as it’s comfy and I like it. Simple.

Favourite perfume?
Ummm…no faves. I wear perfume that is not too strong and smells just nice…usually got that vanilla or sweet kinda smell. Again, no fave brand. Whatever tickles my fancy, or in this case, whatever tickles my nostrils. ;p

Most ideal date?
Meaning the event or the person? Hehe…
Well, for the event of a date, my ideal date would be anything as long as it’s something that me and him can do together…just a walk by the beach/park/at the mall…a movie/watch DVD at home…dinner at expensive restaurant/fast food restaurant/home-cooked meal (him cooking)…just lepak2 at the park/in car/ wherever…anything, as long as me and him together then that’s my ideal date. :D

As for the person, no criteria…as long as he makes me have butterflies in my stomach or can make me wear a stupid grin on my face when I see him or think of him or just hear his name…then that’s my ideal date.

Scattered in this blog:

Ya studying 3d animation, my 3rd year, kinda like aan internship thing, well sorta. Working on a short story, it involves a chicken and chicken-shaped egg timer.
